Shortly before the birth of our son in 2013, I went into David Torretta's home studio in The Hill neighborhood of St Louis with a small group of friends to make some quick recordings of mostly original songs. Two more sessions took place in the months immediately following Max's arrival. The band consisted of Mark Spencer (Son Volt, Jay Farrar, Blood Oranges, Laura Cantrell etc.) on electric lead guitar; Richard Tralles on upright bass; Spencer Marquart on a single snare drum; and myself on acoustic rhythm guitar and vocals.

From the CD liner notes: 'These songs were essentially demos...time and budget constraints prompted a decision to record live in the studio with virtually no overdubs--only the harmony vocals and JJ's harmonica were added post-production. After hearing the sessions some three years later, I chose to resist the temptation of adding additional layers to the songs, and they're presented here in their original form. Four of the songs--"Ruby Red", "Get Up, Get Busy", "Here Now" and "Equal Measures--were previously recorded with other bands. The rest of the material is new with the exception of "Sitting Alone In The Moonlight", which is an old Bill Monroe tune JJ and I have played together for years. The bonus track is a remix of "Get Up, Get Busy" and features overdubs added by Mark Spencer at his home studio in NYC.
