about

Receiver was the second CD by The Transmitters. Recorded and released in 2007, it features the same line-up as the band's debut effort with the exception of a new drummer, Scott Lampley. The group had been together a few years at this point, and the loose, off-the-cuff style of the first album gave way to tighter arrangements and a more constructed sound on the second. The basic tracks were recorded at Jason Hutto's basement studio, with Jason appearing on two cuts.

The songs on Transmission, the band's first CD, were about love lost and found: Receiver is less thematic and broader both lyrically and stylistically, with touches of Americana ("Here Now"), reggae ("Blood & Justice"), country ("Equal Measures") and even some '80's-style New Romantic rock ("Broken Parts"). It sold about as well as the band's first CD, which is to say hardly at all, but it did make our dozen or so fans happy. Myself, I consider Receiver to be an above-average collection of original Midwestern rock tunes from the first decade of the 21st century. I loved The Transmitters, and I'm hoping that this re-release of the band's sophomore effort finds a broader audience. --Kip Loui, Nov 2017
